Harlan Wesley Peithman jr. died on February 19. 2021. His daughter Lynn Peithman informed us that he had died in hospital after a bad fall in the senior citizens residence where he had spent the last years of his life at the age of 89. We were very sad to receive this news ,and we sent our condolences to both his daughters Lynn and Janet and their families.

Harlan W. Peithman jr. had first visited some German relatives in the Hille area in 1937 at the age of 6 when he accompanied his father Dr. Harlan Wesley Peithman sr. and his mother Mollie Peithman on their trip to Europe. They went to listen to some very good classical music (operas and concerts) in Europe, and on their way they dropped in at their relatives‘ homes. Harlan wrote a whole report on that memorable trip in the time shortly before the outbreak of WW II.

Later in life Harlan kept very interested in music just like his wife Joanna. They sang in a number of choirs, and they listened to good music whenever they could. Their daughter Lynn became a professional cellist. After many years of working for the Ford Motor Company Harlan and Joanna (=Doc and Jo) carefully picked Bloomington, IN as their retirement place because the University of Indiana has a department of music which is famous for its excellent music professors and students and for doing several stage productions each year in their great auditorium.

Harlan and Joanna were the most gracious hosts for all the German relatives who went to visit them in the USA whether in Livonia, MI or in Bloomington, IN. We will remember them with great respect and love, hoping that their daughters will keep in touch with the Peit(h)mann Family Association.
