April 28th, 2017 Elizabeth Louise Barrett (table 30) died

We were informed by e-mail from her youngest son Dr. David Samuel Barrett that Elizabeth Louise Barrett née Peithmann, widow of John Stanley Barrett sr., passed away on April 28th. Louise was the much loved mother of three sons and one daughter and grandmother of many grandchildren. Louise lived a long life of love. She will be missed not only by her family but by the members of her church where was very active and regularly gave classes at Sunday School. Many German family members remember Louise from the big family reunion in Stadthagen in 1980 where she participated with her husband. She always gladly opened the doors of her home in Rancho Palos Verdes for visitors from Germany. We will all miss her, and we feel with her family.

David Barrett wrote in his e-mail informing us of his mother’s death (Thank you, David!):

Dear All,

Mama/Grandmother was ushered into the presence of God at approximately 8:30 PM Friday, April 28th. I had the privilege of sitting beside her as she went.

At 8:00 PM, she had a gurgling in her throat. I called Hospice to address the issue. After having the prescribed medication, the gurgling lessened, but she was breathing more and more shallowly. Around 8:30, she was gone. She went very peacefully; she had been looking around, so I believe she knew she was not alone.

The following song was very apropos to both Papa and Mama:
Thank You
I dreamed I went to heaven
And you were there with me;
We walked upon the streets of gold
Beside the crystal sea.
We heard the angels singing
Then someone called your name.
We turned and saw a young man running
And he was smiling as he came.
And he said, „Friend you may not know me now.“
And then he said, „But wait,
You used to teach my Sunday School
When I was only eight.
And every week you would say a prayer
Before the class would start.
And one day when you said that prayer,
I asked Jesus in my heart.“
Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am a life that was changed.
Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am so glad you gave.
Then another man stood before you
And said, „Remember the time
A missionary came to your church
And his pictures made you cry.
You didn’t have much money,
But you gave it anyway.
Jesus took the gift you gave
And that’s why I’m here today.“
Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am a life that was changed.
Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am so glad you gave.
One by one they came
Far as the eye could see.
Each life somehow touched
By your generosity.
Little things that you had done,
Sacrifices made,
Unnoticed on the earth
In heaven, now proclaimed.
And I know up in heaven
You’re not supposed to cry
But I am almost sure
There were tears in your eyes.
As Jesus took your hand
And you stood before the Lord.
He said, „My child, look around you.
Great is your reward.“
Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am a life that was changed.
Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am so glad you gave.
Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am a life that was changed.
Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am so glad you gave.
Mama would always have a stash of the Four Spiritual Laws tracts in her purse. She would include one of these tracts in the envelope paying the water bill, the gas bill, the electric bill, the Sears bill, &c. She was always concerned with ones personal walk with God through the Saviour, Jesus Christ. I am one of those who prayed beside her to ask Jesus Christ into my heart as my personal Lord and Saviour. I, too, am intensely interested in people’s walk with God.
Another descriptive song is:
I can only imagine what it will be like
When I walk, by your side
I can only imagine what my eyes will see
When you face is before me
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
Surrounded by You glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus
Or in awe of You be still
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
I can only imagine when that day comes
When I find myself standing in the Son
I can only imagine when all I would do is forever
Forever worship You
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
Surrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for You, Jesus
Or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall

Will I…

The Lord bless thee, and keep thee:
The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
Numbers 6: 24-26
When God-given opportunities come your way, seize them. You may never pass this way again.
Love,
David Samuel Barrett
